Colloquium on “Fermentation versus Respiration: Can We Apply Fundamental Knowledge of Respiration to Explain the Energetics of Fermentation?” Held at AANL

On November 4, a colloquium entitled “Fermentation versus Respiration: Can We Apply Fundamental Knowledge of Respiration to Explain the Energetics of Fermentation?” was held at the A.I. Alikhanyan National Science Laboratory.

The colloquium was delivered by Karen Trchounian, Doctor of Biological Sciences, Associate Professor, and Director of the Research Institute of Biology at Yerevan State University. During the colloquium, Dr. Trchounian presented the processes of ATP production, fermentation, and respiration, and discussed their possible interrelations and significance.

The colloquium was dedicated to the fundamental processes of bioenergetics—fermentation and respiration. The importance of these processes lies in the fact that they enable the production of adenosine triphosphate (ATP) molecules from food. ATP molecules store energy and provide the energy required for nearly all processes occurring within living organisms.
