Seminars

A seminar dedicated to the study of compact stars was held at AANL.

On September 11, a seminar entitled “Multimessenger Astrophysics of Compact Stars” was held at AANL, featuring Armen Sedrakian (FIAS and the University of Wrocław) as the speaker.

The seminar focused on modern approaches to the study of neutron stars and on multimessenger astrophysics, which combines data obtained through gravitational waves, electromagnetic radiation, and other astrophysical signals.

The speaker discussed the GW170817 event detected in 2017—the merger of two neutron stars—which marked an important turning point in research in this field. Theoretical approaches to studying the properties of ultra-dense matter and their application to describing the structure of neutron stars were also presented.

During the seminar, possible physical processes occurring in the cores of compact stars were discussed, including scenarios involving the transition from nucleonic matter to quark matter and their impact on the structural properties of stars.

The discussion emphasized that research in this area plays an important role in revealing processes that occur under extreme conditions in the Universe and in making effective use of the scientific potential of the next generation of gravitational-wave observatories expected to become operational in the coming years.
