RF TIMER WORKSHOP 2026: International Scientific Workshop at AANL

From October 28 to 30, the A. I. Alikhanyan National Science Laboratory (AANL) hosted the international RF Timer Workshop 2026, dedicated to ultra-precise radio-frequency timing technologies and their applications.

The workshop was organized by AANL with the support of the International Science and Technology Center (ISTC) under Project AM-2803. It brought together scientists and specialists from Armenia and abroad, who presented the latest developments in the field and discussed opportunities to improve timing precision and advance new technologies in particle and photon detection, nuclear and fundamental physics, microelectronics, optoelectronics, and medical imaging.

One of the workshop's key topics was the RFPMT (Radio-Frequency Photomultiplier Tube) technology being developed at AANL, which enables the measurement of individual photon arrival times with a precision of a few picoseconds. Discussions focused on the technology's ongoing development and its applications in scientific research, particle and radiation detectors, as well as emerging methods of medical diagnostics.

One of the workshop's special sessions was dedicated to collaboration between Armenian and Japanese scientists in developing new methods for the early detection of breast cancer. Specialists from AANL's RFPMT research group, the University of Tsukuba, and Hamamatsu University School of Medicine in Japan discussed the application of picosecond-level timing measurements in time-domain diffuse optical tomography (TD-DOT) and its potential for medical imaging.

Throughout the three-day workshop, presentations also covered nuclear and fundamental physics, hypernuclear research, high-speed detectors, and new measurement systems. As part of the program, participants were introduced to the RF Timer system operating at AANL and attended a laboratory demonstration.

The workshop provided an opportunity to showcase technologies being developed at AANL, explore new areas of application, and strengthen international scientific collaboration.
