AANL Scientists Record Increased Solar Activity

On November 11, scientists from the Cosmic Ray Physics Division of AANL recorded increased solar activity, as a result of which high-energy particles are moving toward Earth.

This phenomenon is called a solar proton event, and it can cause weak geomagnetic storms, affecting satellite communications, GPS systems, and radio communications. In some cases, such events may also lead to the appearance of auroras, even in regions where they are not usually visible.

According to specialists’ forecasts, two massive plasma waves (CMEs) ejected from the Sun may alter space weather in the coming days. Although this event is considered to be at a “minor” level (S1), it once again reminds us how closely the Earth is connected to solar activity.
