Within the framework of cooperation between the A. I. Alikhanyan National Science Laboratory (AANL) and Thomas Jefferson Laboratory (JLab), as well as between AANL and the ePIC collaboration at the Electron-Ion Collider, a number of studies are planned that require the development of a system for investigating prototypes of crystal-based electromagnetic calorimeters and their components.
The system can use both generator-controlled light-emitting diodes (LEDs) and cosmic rays. Its main components include trigger, spectrometric, and timing electronics, data-transfer units for transmitting information to a computer, as well as the corresponding mechanical structures.
When cosmic rays are used, the data acquisition (DAQ) system must include at least two scintillation counters, whose coincidence signal serves as the trigger for event recording.
Within the framework of the project “System for Studying the Optical Properties of Crystals,” a set of electronic equipment was acquired as a result of the 2021 competition organized by the Higher Education and Science Committee of the Ministry of Education, Science, Culture and Sports of the Republic of Armenia to provide financial support for the modernization of scientific infrastructure and material and technical resources.
This project laid the practical foundation for the development of a unique and modern system for studying crystals and prototypes of calorimetric devices. The system supports methodological research planned at AANL’s Experimental Physics Division, contributes to the training and professional development of students and young scientists, and significantly expands the scope of research activities carried out within international collaborations.
